I.A.P.S. REGIONAL COMPETITION
BERKHAMSTED COLLEGIATE SCHOOL
THURSDAY 28TH FEBRUARY 2008
Eagle House entered the IAPS Swimming competition and competed at the Berkhampsted Collegiate Regional competition.
The venue was very good with a 6 lane 25m pool and the starts had blocks. A new idea to some of our swimmers, but one which they used well.
Our swimmers were chosen on the basis of one swimmer per year group, per race and each swimmer could only enter one event plus a relay. Those chosen had the fastest times in their year groups.
Our team was:
Alex Manton-Jones (Capt.)
Tom Fowlie
Chloe James
Hugo Rivas De Anta
Tom Surrall
Tom Johnson
Alexandra O'Donnell
George Arnold Wallinger
Julius Manton-Jones
Sophia Wallis
Tanaquille Manton-Jones
Menna Braithwaite
Lily Rowlands
Adam Bailey
Zeus Sekwalor
Noah Walton
We had a number of excellent results and the pick of these were:
Tanaquille Manton-Jones and Adam Bailey were both first in their Under 10 backstroke races.
Sophia Wallis was 1st and Zeus Sekwalor was 2nd by a fraction of a second in their Under 10 freestyle races.
Tom Surrall was 1st (by an awfully long way) in his Under 12 butterfly race.
Julius Manton-Jones was 2nd in his Under 11 freestyle race.
Hugo Rivas De Anta was 2nd in his Under 12 freestyle race.
Alex Manton-Jones was 1st in his Under 13 freestyle race.
Our Under 10 girls freestyle relay team were second.
I should mention that the first race of the day was a boys inter-age freestyle relay which only we competed in. Our time will be measured against teams from all the other regionals, to see if we go further.
Also, some of the races had mixed age groups, so swimmers could get times against competition and this was a little confusing, unless you had the programme with the competitors on. However, the pupils were told to think only of the time, not where they were in the race and every one pof them performed superbly well.
A huge well done to everyone.
Now we have to wait to find out if our times were fast enough to qualify for the finals!
U8 & U9 Swimming v Crosfields
Thursday 22nd November 2007
This was the U8's first swim match of the year, while it was the U9's second.
Both teams competed brilliantly against Crosfields and the match produced a number of 'best performances' from the Eagle House Squad.
Our best performances were from Daniel Salter who won the U8 Breaststroke and came second in the U8A Freestyle race while Henry South came second in the U8B Freestyle race. Also, the U8A relay team won the Freestyle Relay Race. For the U9's, Ben Barnard was second in the U9B backstroke and Sven Winkler von Stiernhielm was second in the U9A breaststroke.
With a good deal of swimming to come, we are assured of even better performances to come.
