March 2009 saw us at the Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park in Bracknell for the second year running. This year we wanted to present a very different show from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and so we decided upon the Broadway musical Seussical - a rather madcap amalgamation of several stories by Dr Seuss. The show is all music and has a very catchy score but right from the start we knew that this would be an ambitious project. The music is demanding and the singing, dancing and the acting of the principals needed to be strong. We are lucky to have a great array of talent and choosing the cast proved very easy. As usual we had a massive team of helpers backstage and the costumes, make-up and musicians always give our shows a professional feel. Rehearsals began back in October 2008 and as we only get into the theatre the day before our first show, we rehearsed in our hall using a taped out area, the size of The Wilde stage. It is during those long rehearsals on January nights when you wonder whether it is worth it and if it will all come together. Our cast are amazing with their commitment and passion for drama and it was obvious that the show had something as we grew closer to performance week. We couldn't have asked for more as it turned out. The three sold out performances were a hit with the audience and our cast were truly amazing. There is nothing like being able to perform in a theatre. The children get a real sense of drama as they step out onto the stage with the lights beaming and the magnificent band playing. Seussiucal is an entertaining show and you cannot help leaving the theatre with a smile after the curtian has fallen. Drama brings people together and the Seussical team of 82 performers and 57 helpers (from costume makers, programme sellers to musicians etc) were a massive team. We are grateful to everyone who helped and to everyone who came to see the show. The Wilde is already booked for next year!
