On Saturday 14th January, a Year 3 Golden Eagle group headed to Crowthorne Woods to take part in the huge volunteer programme of helping to replant the trees lost in last summer's forest fires.
After a brisk walk through the woods, we found the site where the ground had been mulched and the trenches had been dug in preparation for the planting of tree saplings. The children were planting Douglas Fir trees which are part of a cleverly designed replanting programme of different species of trees.
The Forestry Commission are planning to plant a large variety of trees, including ones that can withstand the damage of fires should the forest fires occur again. So far, the first 5000 of the 60,000 trees have been restored.
