January 2012 - Year 8 travel to Southwark
A gloomy, wet London . . .

The sort of day you could be forgiven for wanting to stay indoors. A long coach journey made even worse by the closure of the Hammersmith flyover. Year 8 in grey mood when . . .

the Tate Modern with its art shouting out confusion, opinion and sheer beauty wakes us all up! What a collection of wonder and madness in the cavernous Bankside Power Station.
You have to take note even if it is to say 'What is that?'

We are looking at art, is it ART? The views, ideas and explanations chattered within our groups show that we are all divided and all the better for it.
Lunchtime in the Turbine Hall and out into the rain and onto the Millennium Bridge with the sulky Thames beneath.

Time for the Wooden O - Shakespeare's Globe - the magical space, noble, even in the rain's mist.
Striding onto the stage and announcing 'Ill met by moonlight, proud Titania' to empty seats. 10 syllables shaking the invisible crowd.

Speak the line to anyone - point and imagine . . .

A Shakespearean actor to lead us through the twists of Shakespeare's forest of words, we shout, move and act.

And after the learning, the questions and the fun we think about our day in this vibrant place and the grey skies disappear.
