We took 24 boys on this pre-season Rugby Tour to Chateau du Molay near the town of Le Molay Littry in Normandy, France.

The tour departed on Sunday 25th October at 8am and returned on Thursday 29th October at 8.30pm.

The tour was really a rugby training camp giving all the 'tourists' a chance to practice and play rugby before the season starts immediately after half term. Mr. Gillam, Mr. Boyle and Mr. Orechoff were the coaches for the tour with Mr. Gillam, leading morale, Mr. Boyle took the position of 'Culture Vulture' and Mr. Orechoff. was responsible for the smooth running of the tour.
The facilities at the Chateau were excellent for Rugby training. It had its own brand new Rugby pitch that has been endorsed by the Leeds Rhinos, a 5-a-side football pitch and tennis and basketball courts all set in 38 acres of private parkland in the beautiful Normandy countryside.

Matches
We played two matches; one on Tuesday versus Saint Lo RC and one on Wednesday against Caen RC. Both matches were played in the evenings under floodlights and the boys performed magnificently, winning both matches 50 - 30.
Scorers versus St. Lo were: Oli Cook (2), Thor Winkler von Stiernhielm (2), Charlie Riddell, Adam Dewes, Ross Yates, Ben Moore, Eoin O'Kane & Hamza Rubbani
Scorers versus Caen were: Odise Vila (3), Oli Cook (2), Toby Barnard, James Fowlie, Thor Winkler von Stiernhielm, Richard Morgan, Hamza Rubbani & Max Chawner-Davis.
While not everyone scored, every boy played very well indeed and we all agreed that the preparation work that this tour has given us has been indispensable.
The reason for the high score was due to French rugby laws which stated that we played 12-a-side with no flankers and only 1 winger. There was also no pushing in the scrum. These laws allowed us to play flowing rugby without the possibility of flankers hampering the back-line moves. Thus the Eagle House tourists were able to demonstrate their attacking prowess to the full and things look very good indeed for the forthcoming rugby season.
In Memoriam
Close by were the war memorials of the D-Day landings and we took the opportunity to take in a number of these sites too. Luckily, Mr. Boyle, our 'Culture Vulture' was at hand to set the scene and lead us around:
Omaha Beach

'Pont Du Hoc'

'The American Cemetery'
