Queen Anne's School Girls' Biathlon Challenge
Saturday 6 March 2010
This was the first time that Queen Anne's School had held a biathlon and the first time that Eagle House had participated in one. The event was very well run and all the girls really enjoyed the day.
We had 2 squads, the U11 squad and the U12 squad. We had planned to take four U11's and five U12's however, illness on the morning of the event, forced us to take 3 girls of each age.
Representing the U11 team was Megan Wilkins, Caitlyn Earwaker and Amynta Rimmer (an U10).
Representing the U12 team was Georgina Walton, Eloise Rimmer and Jenny Edwards
The event started with a 250m swim, followed by a 1000m run. The girls were placed in heats of 10 girls of their own age group and swam and ran with the same girls, however, the time it took to change was not timed for this event. This mean that the girls had a 10 minute rest between disciplines.
Our girls swam and in particular, ran brilliantly. Times and positions for the heats are given below:
U11's Results
Amynta -Swim time - 4m 42s - position 2nd in heat & Run time - 4m 22s - position 2nd in heat
Caitlyn - Swim time - 4m 54s - position 7th in heat & Run time - 4m 20s - position 1st in heat
Megan - Swim time - 4m 48s - position 4th in heat & Run time - 4m 50s - position 2nd in heat
U13 Results
Georgina - Swim time - 4m 00s - position 2nd in heat & Run time - 3m 56s - position 1st in heat
Eloise - Swim time - 4m 38s - position 4th in heat & Run time - 4m 19s - position 3rd in heat
Jenny - Swim time - 4m 43s - position 5th in heat & Run time - 4m 30s - position 5th in heat
Then we waited for the event presentations, hopeful that we had performed well....and indeed we had. With medals for the first 6 places in the overall competition, we had plenty of chances to cheer our biathletes:
Georgina Walton was awarded with the fastest run and 1st place overall at U12 level
Caitlyn Earwaker was awarded a medal for 4th place overall at U11 level
Eloise Rimmer was awarded a medal for 5th place overall at U12 level
Amynta Rimmer was awarded a medal for 6th place overall at U10 level
Jenny and Megan were just outside the medals and both gave their all and should be proud of their achievements also.
Congratulations go to all the girls. Very well done!
