What are you going to perform this year at South Hill Park is the question we are asked again and again and after last year's Seussical it was always going to be difficult to make the right choice. In October 2008, whilst in New York I went to see a new musical on Broadway performed by kids called 13. This was Jason Robert Brown's show all about becoming a teenager. I loved the show - thought it was fresh, funny, thoughtful and above all had some great music. I thought that one day it would be good to perform it with EH kids but new musicals take ages to get an amateur release.
13 only lasted a few months on Broadway, not enough people thought that it would be their kind of show which was a pity but in some ways a blessing for us because the show came up for amateur release in October 2009 in the US and the UK. Eagle House was first on the list to get the UK rights and so our 2010 show was decided.
It proved to be just the right choice for our talented cast. The show has energy from the outset and is a blast to perform. It relies on good singing and dancing and some top acting - I think we had it all and our audiences seemed to think so as well. Rehearsing a show like this is hard work and we use Tuesday and Wednesday evenings after school; it goes without saying that the cast have to show real commitment! The hard work is always worth it when you step into the Wilde Theatre and the set for the show starts to appear. 13 clicked from the moment we entered the theatre to the moment we first performed the show. The set, lighting and band were top class and the actors were enthused by the show and pulled out all the stops. It would seem invidious to pull out one person from the cast and crew so here they all are:

We all had a blast performing 13. This page attempts to give you a flavour of the show but like all theatre you had to be there! The kids deserve the most praise. Their enthusiasm and dedication, not to mention talent, made 13 one of the best shows Eagle House has performed.
